Style: American Pale Ale
- The American Pale Ale is a classic showcase for American hops. This beer style has a significant malt backbone, but hops are clearly the featured flavor and aroma.
The American Pale Ale is a variation of the English Pale Ale, albeit with more assertive and aggressive American hops. The so called "West coast" Pale Ale is typified by Sierra Nevada Pale Ale, a classic version of the American Pale Ale and very representative of the hoppy nature of these beers.
Much leeway is given to a lighter hop content, however, and many American Pale Ales smell and taste lighter than Sierra Nevada Pale Ale. Stronger hops content begins to push this beer style towards the American India Pale Ale category.
